Mar 13, 2006. #1. Hi, Suddenly my Bravo 1.4 has developed problems while trying to change gear; it's really difficult to go into 1st or reverse. There is some resistance with the others but they're not anywhere near as bad. If the clutch pedal is forced really hard to the floor it seems to be a little easier. All gearboxes have oil of some description. Back in the 80s/early 90s most Fiat manual boxes used ZC90 oil and recommended it was replace every 36K miles. Later years/gearboxes used more synthetic based oils and oil change periods increased to 70K plus miles. Automatic, Selespeed, Daulogic, etc boxes have different oils/requirements.
The test records show the following oil sump temperatures after 300 operating hours: Mineral oil: 230°F (110°C) SHC: 194°F (90°C) PAG: 167°F (75°C) The life extension factors of synthetic oils as compared to mineral oil are as follows: Mineral oil = 1. SHC = 9.5 times longer. PAG = 31 times longer.
We therefore advise you to start with change the gearbox oil and replace it with a high-performance oil which has good viscosity. We recommend that you follow the manufacturer's recommendations, indicated in the maintenance booklet for your Fiat Bravo 2. Gearbox that hangs on Fiat Bravo 2: Worn clutch:
1. Drained the gearbox for Mobil "Mobilube 1 SHC 75W-90" (GL-4/GL-5 type) when gearbox was warmed up. 2. Topped up the gearbox with my old TUTELA TRANSMISSION MATRYX oil (GL-4 type) 3. Took the car for a 20 km spin again to rinse/flush the gearbox with the old TUTELA TRANSMISSION MATRYX oil (GL-4 type).
